Scale-reading, zero-offset & repeatability teaching model
Interface styling/icons could not load from their CDN. Core measurement logic remains available, but the page may look unstyled.
Educational scale-reading model only. Displayed graduations/resolutions do not establish real-instrument accuracy, calibration status, measurement uncertainty, or fitness for a tolerance.

Zero-Offset Reading & Correction
Explore a simplified signed zero-offset model and practice applying an algebraic correction to an observed reading. This is not an instrument calibration procedure.
Observed Reading
The unadjusted value read directly off the instrument scales when clamped on an object.
Zero Error ($E$)
The scale reading when the jaws or spindle are completely closed ($0.00\text{ mm}$ physical gap).
Corrected Reading
Corrected = Observed - Zero Error
Always subtract the algebraic zero error (with its + or - sign).

Repeatability, Accuracy Concepts & Statistics
Explore repeated-reading spread and an illustrative precision/accuracy target metaphor. A five-reading sample does not by itself determine full measurement uncertainty.

These are descriptive/repeatability statistics for five simulated readings only. Sample standard deviation and standard error are not a complete measurement-uncertainty budget; resolution, calibration/reference standards, environmental effects, method, geometry, force and other systematic/random components may also matter. Displayed decimal places follow this lab’s scale increments, not a universal significant-figures rule.
