Definitions & assumptions
- Length: international inch/foot/yard/mile definitions are used; nautical mile is 1852 m.
- Mass: “lb” and “oz” mean avoirdupois mass. Tonne, U.S. short ton, and Imperial long ton are separate units.
- Data: kB/MB/GB/TB are decimal powers of 1000; KiB/MiB/GiB/TiB are binary powers of 1024. One byte is 8 bits.
- Time: a common year is defined here as 365 days; a Julian year as 365.25 days. Neither performs calendar-date arithmetic.
- Volume: U.S. liquid and Imperial measures are labeled separately. Dry U.S. volume units are intentionally not mixed into this list.
- Temperature: temperature-scale conversions use exact °C/°F/K relationships and reject values below absolute zero.
